Which law applies

[…] is a Chilean company, so the processing is governed by Chile's personal data protection law.

In addition, since we collect emails from people who may be in Europe, when we process data of people in the European Economic Area we also apply the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

In practice this means the same on what matters: we ask for your consent, collect the minimum, tell you what it's for, and let you exercise your rights easily.

What data we process

We process two groups of data, and the second one only if you accept it.

If you join the waiting list. Your email address, together with the exact text you accepted, its version and the date and time when you did it. We do not ask for your name, your phone number or any other data.

If you accept measurement. Browsing data that Google Analytics collects about your visit, such as the pages you see, how long you spend on them, which site you came from, the type of device and browser, and an approximate location at city or country level. That data is tied to a random identifier stored in a cookie, not to your name or your email.

Also, like any website, our hosting provider technically logs the IP address and the basic data of every request the server receives.

What we use it for

The email, to let you know when there is news about the books and the content you signed up for. We do not use it for anything else and we do not pass it on to third parties for their own purposes.

The measurement data, to know which articles get read and which ones do not, and to improve the site with that information. We do not use it for advertising or to build individual profiles.

The server logs, to keep the site running and to protect it from abuse.

Legal basis

The email is processed with your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the form.

Measurement is processed with your consent, which you give in the notice that appears when you enter the site. It is a consent separate from the previous one and you can give it or refuse it without that affecting anything else. If you do not give it, Google Analytics is not loaded and no measurement cookie is installed.

The server logs are processed under the legitimate interest of keeping the site running and secure.

Cookies and storage in your browser

If you accept measurement, Google Analytics installs two first party cookies on our own domain.

Both are sent only over encrypted connections and are not shared with other sites.

Always, whether you accept or refuse, we store your decision in your browser's local storage, under the key tpma-consent. It records what you chose, when, and the version of the notice you saw. It is strictly necessary, because without that record we could not honour a refusal and we would ask you again on every page. It holds no personal data and never leaves your browser.

How long we keep it

The email, for as long as you stay on the list. If you unsubscribe, we delete it.

The measurement cookies, up to 400 days in your browser, or until you withdraw your consent or delete them yourself.

The measurement data held by Google, as configured in our Google Analytics account. Event data is kept for two months and data tied to the visitor identifier for fourteen months. Once those periods pass, Google deletes it automatically. Reports that are already aggregated, identifying nobody, may be kept for longer.

The server logs, for the period Netlify sets for technical and security purposes, according to its own privacy policy.

Which processors handle it

We work with two providers, and neither uses your data for its own purposes.

Netlify, which hosts the site and receives the waiting list form. It processes your email if you sign up, and the IP address and technical data of every visit.

Google, through Google Analytics, only if you accept measurement. According to Google, Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.

When we start using an email delivery service, we will add it here before moving the list over.

International transfers. Netlify and Google are United States companies, so your data is processed outside Chile and outside the European Economic Area. Both providers are certified under the European Union and United States Data Privacy Framework, which is the main mechanism covering those transfers. On top of that, both use the European Commission's standard contractual clauses for the cases where that framework does not apply.

Your rights

You can ask us for access to your data, its rectification, its erasure, object to its processing, restrict it and request its portability, by writing to the address given in section 1.

Withdrawing your measurement consent is even simpler. The link Cookie preferences sits in the footer of every page. If you switch to refuse, measurement stops from the next page onwards and the Google Analytics cookies are deleted from your browser.

Leaving the list is done with the link that comes in every email, or by writing to us.

Withdrawing a consent does not affect the validity of what was done while it was in force.

Changes to this policy

When something relevant changes about what data we process or how we do it, we will update this page and its date.
